  • In his book, “3:16 Bible Verses Illuminated,” #DonaldKnuth, Professor of #Compterscience and #mathematics, uses #stratifiedsampling to study a selection of the approximately 30,000 verses in the #Bible. Rather than a purely random sampling, he chose to study every Chapter 3, verse 16 of every book of the Bible. Books the did not have 3 Chapters were excluded and verse numbers were extended into Chapter 4 when Chapter 3 had less than 16 verses. This gave 59, 3:16 verses for his book in which each verse as put into context and translated by the author into modern English. Fifty nine #calligraphers from around the world #illuminated the verses, one of which was the renowned #HermanZapf, who designed the book cover and illuminated John 3:16.
